Tweddle Group Receives Gold Honors from MIOSHA CET Awards
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich., January 23rd, 2025 – The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) has presented Tweddle Group its Consultation Education and Training (CET) Gold Award.
Tweddle Group, a top provider of product support and information technology, earned the award for its exceptional commitment to workplace safety and health.
“Our team members should be proud of this award,” said Tweddle Group President Todd Headlee. “The company works hard to be self-sufficient in its safety systems. This validates all that effort—we’ve not only met the standard OSHA requirements, but we’ve also gone further to meet the CET criteria.”
The CET Gold Award
The MIOSHA CET Division recognizes the safety and health achievements of Michigan employers and employees through its CET Awards, which highlight excellence in safety and health performance. Gold Award recipients must also demonstrate illness and injury rates below their industry average for two consecutive years.
Launched in 1990, the MIOSHA CET Awards feature four recognition tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Ergonomics Success.
The Gold tier was introduced in 1994. Since then, only 93 Michigan companies have received the Gold Award.
Tweddle Group was one of two Gold Award recipients in 2024.
MIOSHA CET Awards Criteria
To achieve the 2024 MIOSHA CET Gold Award, businesses must voluntarily participate in the program and collaborate with a dedicated CET coach to enhance their proactive safety measures, including:
- Employee participation in safety committees
- Routine self-inspections
- Near-miss accident reporting
- Thorough root cause analyses of accidents when they occur
- Application of a Safety and Health Management System (SHMS)
Said Headlee, “I’m encouraged by the win because it suggests our teams are safe when they’re on the job.”
“The company works hard to be self-sufficient in our safety systems, and this award validates all that effort," said Tweddle Group President Todd Headlee.
Building a Safer Workplace
“Tweddle Group is a shining example of what’s possible when employers prioritize the well-being of their workforce,” said MIOSHA Consultation Education Director Tarah Kile. “This Gold Award reflects their commitment to excellence and sets the stage for even greater achievements in the future.”
Ben Goers, Tweddle Group’s Director of Quality, said his team’s participation in the MIOSHA program reflects a company-wide commitment to excellence.
“This award reflects a dedication to safety and excellence at every level of a company,” Goers said. “That’s what it takes. You need the whole village, from top management to the front lines, and that’s what we’ve got. Everybody is committed and involved in the program.”
Goers said the MIOSHA program offered an opportunity to further refine Tweddle Group's safety systems.
A Longtime Commitment to Health and Safety
Tweddle Group runs failure mode analyses on all its accident reports to help prevent future incidents, Goers said. “Tweddle Group has historically demonstrated excellent safety practices,” said Tweddle Group Director of Quality Ben Goers. “We wanted to take that to the next level.”
Goers said safety systems are just as important to Tweddle Group as its client-required quality certifications. “We treat our safety systems like we treat our quality systems,” Goers said. “If you’re not continuously improving your systems, you’re falling behind.”
Pursuing the MIOSHA CET Star Award
With the CET Gold Award secured, Goers said the company will continue to work with MIOSHA’s safety and health consultants to pursue MIOSHA’s most prestigious level of recognition, the Michigan Voluntary Protection Program (MVPP).
“We have no intention of stopping with the Gold,” Goers said. “We’re aiming for the MVPP Star Award, which is the top tier.”
Tweddle Group representatives expect the next phase to focus on collaboration between CET and Tweddle Group’s in-house safety team, along with continued workforce training.
“We all know what the safety policies are,” Goers said. “Now we’re working with each individual to be more than someone who simply follows procedures. We want each team member to become a safety leader in their respective area, and in their daily work life.”
Goers said he expects the company to attain MIOSHA MVPP Star Award within the next 18-24 months.
